Vectis U10s at the Hampshire Festival, 17 March 2019

Magnificent performance from the boys in blue!

Vectis Under 10s smashed through the earlier games of their Pool 2 encounters at this weekends’ Hampshire Festival, batting aside the Tadley Tigers (who renamed the Tadley Tiddlers), Fareham Heathens and Andover – with a great and much-improved defence performance and some superb run-in tries by golden boot winner George C. Billy E won silver medal for his stand-out defensive tackling superbly supported by Alex W, Isaac H, Regan N and Freddie H playing up-front in the centres – ably supported by Clyde H, Rafe B and Jamie B sitting just behind in our new scrum-half role with Jack JJ, Tyler E and Coben AB covering the wing positions and George C cutting in from fullback. And the bronze medal this week went to Alex W for adding a swerve and sidestep to his barn-storming attack play. Well done Alex. Brilliant everyone.

The next two games proved more difficult with Overton overcoming our stiff resolve upfront to eventually pull 2-3 tries ahead (against our 1) and who went on to concede no more tries all afternoon. The final match, against a strong host Petersfield team, being ‘one-game-too-many’ with a combination of tiredness and emotion kicking-in, not to mention the hail(!) and one or two collisions taking their toll.

So overall, a terrific performance with a much-improved defensive structure and counter-rucking, which we did as well as any other team all afternoon.

Well done Vectis Under 10s and special thanks to all the parents, helpers and coaches for a terrific day of rugby. There’s plenty to be excited about going forward.
