Big win for powerful Vectis side.
In perfect conditions for running rugby Vectis at last put all their training to fruition and swept Petersfield aside in a display of accurate passing and powerful running.
It took 17 seconds for the first try to be scored by Nathan following a searing run from man of the match Rory Taylor returning the kick off. It took less than a minute to score again, this time by Jesse Butchers. The pack got on top of their opponents quickly and scrum half Bleriot made sure that the backs were receiving quick ball to run with, which they used well by looking for space outside their opponents. In a display of relentless attacking Vectis scored three more tries in the next ten minutes, one for Taylor and two by Butchers to complete his hat-trick. All of the tries were converted by Taylor taking the score to 35-0. To their credit Petersfield never gave up but were unable to break the Vectis stranglehold on possession and territory.
The tournament rules are that once the score reaches 35-0 the cup tie would finish and the rest of the game would be played as a friendly. Even then Vectis kept up their assault on the Petersfield line and scored a further ten tries, one of the highlights being a first ever try from Thor Lawell-Rieley who plunged over from a metre out.
Next week we have a friendly against Haywards Heath which may well prove to be a harder morning!
Final score: Vectis RFC U14s 35-0 Petersfield RFC U14s
