Vectis colts came into this game looking to improve on strong performances in previous games and they certainly delivered. Tottonians were placed second in the league, but Vectis showed little respect for position and started brightly. In excellent conditions, Vectis kicked off and immediately pinned the opposition in their own half. A strong defensive press led by King and Marsh, stopped the visitors clearing their lines comfortably. However, Totts proved well drilled and retained possession.
When they broke, from their half they looked dangerous and it took some impressive scrambling defence from Whale, Jones-Evans and Malkin to keep them out. Totts did grab the first score, however Vectis responded quickly. Franklin at scrum half pressured his opposite number and earned a penalty, breaks by Sothcott and Clifford drew defenders, and Newton showed great strength to finish a well earned try.
Vectis pressure proved telling again as another penalty was converted by Farrant. They were not done however, as captain Jack Sothcott also powered over for a popular try which Farrant converted . The visitors replied with a try of their own before the end of the half to leave the scores 15-12
The second half was a thriller, as both teams attacked with confidence. Although playing into the wind Vectis kicked well to clear their lines. Strong carries from Miller and Poynter-Chard kept the visitors busy. Tactical changes for Vectis moved Malkin in to scrum half and man of the match Marsh on to the wing where he made an immediate impression. Stepping off his left foot at their 10 metre line, Marsh beat four Totts defenders before sprinting over for a try.
The visitors were not done however and they made Vectis pay for a lack of concentration as they scored two quick tries. With the visitors only two points clear Vectis were right in the game, however Totts scored next as Vectis started to tire, but the home side would not give up. In the dying seconds of the game, a break from midfield by Newton proved unstoppable as he scored his second. Farrant converted but the visitors remained two points clear at the refs whistle.
