News from Ed Blake, Chairman, Ventnor RFC

The grounds clearance is now underway to clear the undergrowth that was in the area for the new training pitch for Ventnor Football Club, Rew Valley Youth Football Club and Ventnor RFC.

With recent news of Rew Valley Youth Football Club, as well as Ventnor Football Club, being hit with a major increase in their costs for winter training areas, Ventnor RFC’s committee requested a meeting between the 3 clubs to see if there was an in house solution that could be found.

A deal has been made that Ventnor FC will provide a currently unused piece of land that Ventnor RFC will convert to a training area that will be floodlit for both clubs to use on there respective training nights. This will mean that major cost savings will been by both clubs and training on a non pitch space will help protect playing surfaces in the wetter months.

Ventnor RFC Chairman said “The proposed new training area will help both clubs massively. I’d like to thank Ventnor FC for quickly getting round the table to sort out the problem. Hopefully we can extend the deal to include Rew Valley FC soon so that Watcombe Bottom is fully utilised by the whole community”

The area of grounds is currently being prepared, with the ground works underway to clear the undergrowth for the training pitch for the use of the three island clubs.

Further updates on this project will appear in the Autumn edition of the Ventnor RFC Magazine and the Autumn 2018 edition of the Isle of Wight Rugby Magazine.
